Newbie doubts

Hey everyone.

I just got introduced into the wonderful and underrated band that is our beloved Doe Maar earlier this year.

To be honest, I am watching an afschiedsconcert for the 60th time now and I am sad that Henny is no longer with us and that the band is seemingly forever gone.

Bit of background. Met Dutch girl earlier this year, fell in love. Didn't care much for them at first. But Pa. Did it hit me hard. Such a production must I say. But many months after I fell in love with all the rest and Dutch language.

I don't have many questions for you as a foreigner but then again I have every question. Because. I spent my month of July listening to their 1984's afscheidsconcert. And I think it can be lonely to be a...2022 Doe Maar newborn fan? I think so. But I don't want to feel special. I had so many questions all these years. But I kinda forgot all.

Well, first that pops to mind. Pim is big in my mind's landscape 'cause he is the drummer of the afscheidsconcert. But van Colllem joined them for at least a song. I just wonder. How Doe Maar fans see to be the real drummer? We know of van Collem's substance problems sadly. But it took me quite a while on my own. To realize black shirted guy is Pim and not René. Pim took part in videoclips, right? Een nacht alleen at least? I do wonder a lot what is it with his tonge tick thing. Is it just an unvolutary body movement or has it ever bee addressed? Sorry if being overthoughtful. Just looks a bit weird.

I met Doe Maar through a Dutch person I fell in love with. Tho I don't feel she's the biggest fan. Rather someone who heard their parents play a lot of Doe Maar. How common is this in the Netherlands?

I can see the guys were overwhelmed by their response in the early 80's. But why did they quit it so early really? At least I know Morrissey formed a career post-Smiths. What was the deal with Doe Maar? I know they did some solo stuff but nothing ever seemed big. Only what my love linked me. And that was Henny with Herman Brood's song. Which is very awesome.

Who were the guys in the afscheidsconcert during Zolang? I guess I mean the bass player only, sorry.

In the videoclip of Een nach alleen...is the girl who kisses Henny at the end his wife? Is it known? Just a personal theory.

What happened to these guys in the 90's? And early 2000's? Why such a silence after 1984? I understand reasons of privacy and all and not wanting to play and be public anymore. But it feels like they were gone too soon? What's the overall feeling in The Netherlands?

I probably have a lot more to ask but feels a bit like I am forcing questions a bit in here. I just know their music makes me feel very good and that Henny's stage presence brings me so much peace. I feel their are so good and should be so much more well known outside of The Netherlands. They were really talented guys is more difficult times. Jansz, a talented writer. Henny, so muchy charisma and presence. Hendricks very underrated? What a guitar player. I found an article in English (only I could in my google search about Doe Maar) written by some lazy English biased dude saying that "Henny and Jansz were the Lennon and McCartney's of Doe Maar". As true as that statement may be (divided leadership) I feel it was such a lazy written article by someone who spent weeks with Doe Maar (or at least he claimed so) during their peak. I know Doe Maar have huge legacy. But why did they stop so early? I am a fan of some 80's music and Pa sounds like it would chart everywhere if properly promoted.

I know Henny was not the original vocalist of Doe Maar. Belafonte, right? Guy seems really talented. And they gave him a lot of spotlight in his concerts. And everyone else. What is of them these days?

I wish I knew Doe Maar way earlier tho I was born in 1986. But 2022 still feels quite late.

I love their sound. I was very sad to hear of Henny's passing earlier this year. I hope he is at peace. And that the other guys are healthier. It's very strange to fall in love with a band in 2022 when their peak was the early 80's and watch some of their most recent live performances. I hope the other guys are fine. I love them and their music and I will always be thankful to my schatje for introducing me to them. Sorry the crappy long message. Very curious just, but at the same time can't find the questions.
